BREA-OLINDA TOURNAMENT : Sunny Hills Can’t Keep Up the Pace, Loses to Compton

Sunny Hills’ fourth-quarter rally fell short as the Lancers lost, 57-49, to Compton in the championship semifinals of the Pepsi Brea-Olinda boys’ basketball tournament Tuesday night at Brea-Olinda High School.
Trailing, 38-28, after three quarters, Sunny Hills (4-6) went on a 9-2 run and narrowed the deficit to 40-37 on Mike Clark’s short jumper in the key with six minutes 25 seconds left.
Marquis Flemons made two baskets to give Compton (9-3) a 44-37 lead with 5:25 remaining. Mario Bertoul hit two free throws with 4:47 left to cut the lead to 46-41. Compton then sealed the victory with a 9-3 run, sparked by Jamon D’Antignac’s three field goals.
Compton will play St. John Bosco (10-1) in the tournament championship game at 8:30 tonight. Sunny Hills will play Cerritos Gahr in the third-place game at 7 p.m. at Brea-Olinda High.
Jacobi Thompson led Compton with 22 points. Bertoul led the Lancers in scoring with 16 points.
