Pasadena : Motel Closed as Unsafe
Fire officials closed a Lincoln Avenue motel this week because of allegedly dangerous conditions, leaving 67 people homeless.
Responding to complaints, fire marshals inspected the Capri Motel on North Lincoln Avenue on Monday and found fire- and safety-code violations that were “a direct threat to the occupants,” Deputy Fire Marshal Harry Crusberg said.
Residents were being sheltered temporarily at the Jackie Robinson Center on North Fair Oaks Avenue, a spokeswoman for the San Gabriel Valley chapter of the American Red Cross said Wednesday.
Jin Guo, the manager of the motel, said Wednesday that owner Ching Chen Tsai had contracted to make the required repairs, including to faulty heaters and a fire alarm system. “We hope to be finished in three days,” he said.
The Red Cross spokeswoman said about a third of the Capri residents are children under high school age. The Red Cross is supplying them with cots, blankets and food.
