COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Foster’s Free Throws Help Saddleback Beat Cypress

Jeff Foster, who finished with 14 points, made two free throws with eight seconds remaining in overtime to help Saddleback defeat Cypress, 67-64, Friday in an Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball game.

Cypress (18-7, 3-3 in conference) trailed, 67-64, with 15 seconds remaining in overtime, when Tom Barraza missed a three-pointer. The Chargers fouled Foster, who clinched the victory.

Anthony Livingston, who had a team-high 16 points, scored to give Cypress a 59-52 lead with 2:20 remaining. But the Gauchos (17-6, 5-1) forced overtime by outscoring Cypress, 7-0, to close out regulation.

Antoine Jefferson and Kevin Fricka each scored 14 points for Saddleback.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Fullerton 116, Irvine Valley 114--Sam Love had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Tamar Ross had 23 points, and Greg Williams had 14 assists for host Fullerton. Chris Kostoff had 35 points, including seven three-pointers, and Dan Bathey had 25 points for Irvine Valley.

Rancho Santiago 94, Orange Coast 90--Ruben Oronoz had 28 points and nine rebounds for Rancho Santiago (16-7, 5-1). Todd Loewe had 26 points and Jeff Porter added 24 for host OCC (4-16, 1-5).

Riverside 98, Golden West 62--Darryle Flicking had 41 points and nine rebounds to lead host Riverside (18-7, 4-2). Greg Vanden Ordel had 17 points for Golden West (9-14, 2-4).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s basketball:

Golden West 82, Riverside 65--Cinnamon Basco had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Melanie Iwamasa added 16 points for the host Rustlers (22-5, 5-0), ranked second in the state. Frances Oda had 14 points and 10 assists and Kristin Brun had 13 points and nine assists for Golden West. Riverside is 17-8, 3-2.

Orange Coast 88, Rancho Santiago 39--Colleen Hatch had 20 points and 15 rebounds and Ricarda Kuypers had 13 points and 10 assists for visiting OCC (20-3, 5-1). Alin Perez had 13 points for Rancho Santiago (4-15, 0-5).

Saddleback 58, Cypress 46--Shelly Calhoun had 22 points for host Saddleback (6-11, 3-3). Tamika Harold had 13 points for Cypress (10-11, 1-4).
