PREP ROUNDUP : Corona del Mar’s Balance Key to Victory

Chris Quinn led a balanced attack with 17 points as Corona del Mar defeated University, 71-67, in a Sea View League boys’ basketball game Saturday night.

Eli Wendell added 15 points and Todd Merriman had 14 for Corona del Mar (11-7, 4-3).

University (4-13, 1-6) got 22 points from Robert Luna and Demi Ziegler added 18.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Valencia 57, La Habra 46--Nikki Kubota scored 29 points to lead visiting Valencia (4-11).

In Freeway League girls’ soccer:

Sunny Hills 0, La Habra 0 (OT)--Danielle Broschgak had nine saves for Sunny Hills (13-3-1, 4-0-1) and Larissa Noriega had 11 for La Habra (12-3-1, 4-0-1).

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 4, Tustin 0--Krista Widner, Tiffany Brown, Jaimee York and Claire Wels scored for Santa Margarita (10-1-6). In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 2, Mater Dei 0--Jo-Ellen Bosco and Lindsay Light scored for host Capistrano Valley (15-4-2, 3-2).

In the Sunset League:

Ocean View 2, Huntington Beach 0--Gina Tocco and Jessica Funke scored in the second half for visiting Ocean View (14-4-1, 5-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 1, Laguna Hills 0--Rebecca Satin scored in the first half as visiting Estancia (11-4-3, 4-0) took over sole possession of first place.

Trabuco Hills 4, Laguna Beach 0--Jamacia Johnston, Erika Knoop, Lindsay Rogers and Theresa Summa scored goals as Trabuco Hills (11-7, 3-2) stopped Laguna Beach (2-6, 1-2).

At the Canyon wrestling invitational:

Canyon Takes First--Jared Merril (152 pounds), Kirk Gominsky (140), and Cesar Trejo (119) each scored first place victories to lead Canyon to a first-place finish at 158 points.

In the San Clemente wrestling tournament:

Santa Ana wins--Roger Santiago was named the meet’s top wrestler as he captured the 103-pound title in leading Santa Ana to the championship of the 20-team meet.

At the Savanna Rebel Classic:

Savanna Takes First--Richard Ramos (112) and Teak Sato (130) won to lead Savanna to the tournament championship with 206.5 points.
