Coach Mike Roark, who led Brethren Christian High School to the Olympic League football championship last fall, has resigned.

School officials were unavailable for comment on Roark’s decision, and Roark declined to comment.

Roark compiled a 23-11 record in three seasons at Brethren Christian. The Warriors finished 9-4 last fall, winning their first league title since 1982. They advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Section Division X playoffs, where they lost to eventual champion Big Bear, 24-12.

Brethren Christian will return three Division I college prospects--tackle Daryl Jones, quarterback Reggie Davis and linebacker Keith Washington--next season.

Brethren Christian was coming off consecutive 2-7 seasons when Roark took over in the spring of 1989. The Warriors had been outscored, 175-0, by league rivals Cerritos Valley Christian and Whittier Christian, and Montclair Prep in a nonleague game in 1988.

Former Cypress High two-sport star Blaise Bryant has been hired as an assistant track coach at La Quinta.

Bryant will coach the sprinters and triple jumpers. He had a personal best of 46 feet 9 inches in the triple jump as a senior at Cypress in 1987.

Bryant was a standout running back at Golden West College and Iowa State, where he was named to the All-Big Eight Conference team as a junior.

Bryant played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League last season.

Troy High will retire the jersey numbers of four former basketball players in ceremonies preceding its home game at 7 p.m. Friday night.
