Santiago Baseball Standout Noisy Transfers to Irvine High

Geoff Noisy, one of the top high school baseball players in Orange County, has transferred from Santiago to Irvine High, according to Irvine Coach Bob Flint.

Noisy, a junior outfielder, batted .325 with seven doubles, 10 runs batted in and 11 stolen bases as Santiago’s leadoff batter last season.

“He’s one of the most talented players I’ve ever coached,” said former Santiago coach Myron Pines, now a scout for the Seattle Mariners. “He’s got as much natural ability as anyone in the area.”

Flint said Noisy enrolled at Irvine about four weeks ago after his family moved into the district, and approached him about playing on the baseball team.

“I had no idea who he was or that he was enrolled in school, “ Flint said. “He came to my office and said, ‘My name is Geoff and I’d like to try out.’ I was totally naive and asked the kid about his credentials.

“Later, I called Myron and found out the kid is a blue-chipper. We’ve been working him out in center field and he’s adjusting beautifully. He’s a classy kid with a 3.8 grade-point average.”

Irvine finished 22-10 last season and was the runner-up in the Southern Section 3-A division. Flint returns seven starters and now has the best starting outfield in the county. Tommy Louie will play in left, Noisy in center and Scott Seal in right.

Noisy, a backup running back on Santiago’s football team last fall, probably will move to wide receiver in Irvine’s football program.
