Toby Bailey scored 27 points to lead Loyola High to an 81-66 victory over Palmdale on Friday night at Palmdale in the first round of the Southern Section basketball playoffs.

The Cubs (19-6) used a 10-3 run early in the fourth quarter to take a 66-56 lead, and from there they pulled away.

Palmdale (14-10)trailed only 56-53 after three quarters, mainly because of the perimeter shooting of Al Lairson, who had 17 points.

But Lairson was shut out in the final quarter, when Palmdale made only five of 19 shots.

The Falcons had made 24 of 46 shots (52.2%) during the first three quarters.

Loyola’s Marcus Kaufman added 16 points and Kennan Adams had 10.

Ty Gaines had 15 points and Jerome Payton had seven assists and no turnovers for Palmdale.

Palmdale girls’ team was scheduled to host undefeated and top-ranked Thousand Oaks in the first game of a doubleheader, but that game was rescheduled for today because of transportation problems for Thousand Oaks.
