DIVISION III-AA, III-A ROUNDUP : Newport Harbor Beaten by Bishop Montgomery
Andre English scored 16 points as host Torrance Bishop Montgomery ran past Newport Harbor, 69-49, in the opening round of the Division III-AA playoffs.
English scored 12 of his game-high 16 points in the second half to lead the Knights (21-2).
The Sailors (12-15) took a 29-27 lead at halftime behind junior Ramy Shoukry’s 12 points.
But Bishop Montgomery went on a 14-3 run to open the third quarter, capped by a Jayson Sanders three-pointer, with 3 minutes 39 seconds remaining.
Newport Harbor, 12 for 24 from the field in the first half, was cold in the third quarter, connecting on just three of 15 attempts to trail, 47-36.
Junior Wade Tift scored eight points and collected a game-high 11 rebounds for the visitors.
