PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Compton Dominguez Rolls Past Torrance, 96-66

Compton Dominguez, ranked No. 3 by The Times, had five players score in double figures on its way to a 96-66 victory over Torrance in a Southern Section Division II-AA second-round playoff game at Torrance Tuesday night.

Jamie Gillin and Chris Blanton led the Dons’ balanced attack with 14 points each.

Michael Dean, the state’s leading scorer, finished with 37 points for the Tartars (13-14).

Dominguez, which will play host to Santa Barbara in the quarterfinals Friday, improved to 23-2.

No. 5 Lakewood Artesia 72, North Torrance 45--The Pioneers (23-3) pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring the Saxons (15-11), 25-8, on their way to a II-A victory at North Torrance. Charles O’Bannon led Artesia, the defending State Division II champions, with 23 points.

No. 6 Huntington Beach 72, Valley View 52--The Oilers (26-3) extended their winning streak to 17 games with a I-A victory over the Eagles (17-9) at Huntington Beach.

Paramount 87, No. 16 Anaheim Esperanza 62--Chris Boyd scored a game-high 31 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had eight assists to lead the Pirates (16-10) to an upset victory over the Aztecs (21-6) in a I-A game at Esperanza.

Pasadena 89, Diamond Bar 78--Tyrone Williams of Pasadena made a jump shot with three seconds remaining in regulation to send the I-A game at Diamond Bar into overtime. The Bulldogs (22-6), led by Donald Guyton’s 25 points, outscored the Brahmas, 17-6, in overtime.

Loyola 99, Los Alamitos 91--Junior forward Toby Bailey finished with a game-high 30 points to pace the Cubs (20-6) in a I-A game at Loyola. Los Alamitos finished 20-7.

Crescenta Valley 76, La Verne Damien 68--Senior guard Adam Jacobsen made seven three-point shots in a row on his way to a 36-point performance that helped the Falcons (21-4) to a II-AA victory over Damien (17-10) at Crescenta Valley. Jacobsen, the Southern Section’s all-time three-point leader, has 691 points this season.

Inglewood 62, Tustin 54--Senior forward Jivon Hester scored 19 points to lead the Sentinels (18-9) in II-AA game at Tustin (20-8).

Huntington Beach Edison 70, Glendora 65--Micah Kroeger led the Chargers (15-8) with 25 points in a II-AA victory at Glendora (19-9). Cameron Murray scored 36 points for the Tartans.

Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 58, Ventura 56--Shane Willis scored 24 points and Frank Zeno added 22 for the Mustangs (20-7) in a II-A victory at Mira Costa.

Hacienda Heights Wilson 91, Anaheim Magnolia 55--Senior guard Damien Jones had 39 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals for the Wildcats (22-5) in a II-A victory over Magnolia (13-12).

Pasadena Poly 64, Whitewater St. John’s 45--The Panthers (18-6) handed the Saints (20-1) their first loss of the season in a V-AA game at Mt. San Jacinto Junior College.

Bel-Air Prep 78, Arroyo Grande Coastal Christian 46--Westley Allen’s 31 points, seven rounds and five assists highlighted the Bruins’ V-A victory at Bel-Air.
