The start time for Saturday night’s game between Cal Lutheran and host La Verne in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament has been moved from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Emeka Okenwa of the Master’s College has been named to the All-NAIA District 3 men’s basketball team, and teammates David Humphreys and Andy Thompson have been selected to the All-District 3 second team.

Okenwa, a 6-foot-8 junior forward from Owerri, Nigeria, averaged 15.9 points and 9.4 rebounds a game in leading Master’s to a 18-9 record during the regular season. Humphreys, a 5-11 senior guard from Miami, averaged 11.9 points and 5.2 assists. Thompson, a 6-6 junior forward from New Berlin, Ill., averaged 12.4 points.

Five of the six players named to the All-East Valley League basketball team are from North Hollywood High. Juniors Damon Ollie and Fantasia Johnson were selected the league’s co-most valuable players. Ollie last season shared MVP honors with former teammate Robert Hill, who is now playing for Cal State Northridge.

North Hollywood seniors Anson Credille and Romain Coleman and sophomore Arthur Lee round out the first team. John Cannon of Sherman Oaks CES, the only player in the league to average 20 points or more, also was selected.

Monroe High’s Kenyatta Niles and LaMarco Rich have been named co-most valuable players of the Mid-Valley League.

Other all-league selections are Birmingham’s Raffi Kassabian and Greg Whiteside, Canoga Park’s Glenn Davis and Demond Callahan, and Monroe’s Tweedy Stiner.

Soccer

Two City Section soccer all-star matches for seniors will be played Friday at Cal State Los Angeles.

The boys’ match is at 7 p.m. and features 17 area athletes: Monroe’s Axel Flores, Eduardo Jaramillo and Rafael Jaramillo, San Fernando’s Omar Pasqualato and Luis Orosco, Birmingham’s Tony Serpas and Erick Barrera, Granada Hills’ Chris Separa and Jose Carranza, Taft’s Julio Melendez and Eduardo Rodriguez, Reseda’s Julio Castillo and Melvin Campos, North Hollywood’s Locke Eldridge and Darren Strauss, and Van Nuys’ Rafael Brand.

The girls’ match is at 5 p.m. Seven players from City champion Chatsworth will play: Kim Kuhn, Mary Oades, Stephanie Kivenan, Becky Andreas, Erin Barry, Sharon Gershon and Sherri McKnight. Granada Hills’ Stephanie Kaplan, Francine Lara and Alez Gold, Kennedy’s Kristin Kawakami and El Camino Real’s Carly Richard also will play for the West team.

Grant’s Ankica Bilaver, Sara Levine, Tamu Hufanga and Leah Simon will play for the East.

A high school all-star soccer match for senior girls will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Arcadia City Hall.

Twelve area players--Louisville’s Cindy Daws and Julie Ley, Westlake’s Audrey Maxfield and Mari Meinhart, Harvard-Westlake’s Alyze Lowen, Alemany’s Michelle Bush, Chaminade’s Meghan Mitchell, Simi Valley’s Amy Hood, Royal’s Jenny Evans, Newbury Park’s Tabetha Garibay, Chatsworth’s Erin Barry and Birmingham’s Erin Saltzman--will participate for the West team. Crescenta Valley’s Jennifer Beall and Jennifer Price will play for the East.

A second match between the teams will be played at 6 p.m. March 13 at Montclair High.
