In other nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Garden Grove 3, Long Beach Wilson 0--Seth Hall had 11 kills as Garden Grove (2-1) swept, 15-9, 15-6, 15-4.
Laguna Hills 3, Los Amigos 2--Jeff Sturdivan had 25 kills and Steve Parente had 51 assists for host Laguna Hills (3-0), which won, 15-13, 12-15, 15-13, 6-15, 16-14. Kiet Tran had 29 kills for Los Amigos (0-1).
La Quinta 3, Valencia 2--Brad Huss had 27 kills to lead La Quinta (3-1) to a 16-14, 11-15, 15-11, 7-15, 15-2 victory. Joe Reynoza had 17 kills and 11 blocks for Valencia (2-2).
In nonleague baseball:
Buena Park 6, Long Beach St. Anthony’s 5--Alfredo Garcia had a two-run home run in the first inning and a solo home run in the sixth for host Buena Park (3-0). Garcia’s sixth-inning home run cut St. Anthony’s lead to 6-4. Later in the inning, Danny Bacca had a triple to tie it, 5-5. Pinch-hitter Brian Woodall then singled to score Bacca with the winning run.
University 8, El Monte Arroyo 5--Scott MacDermott had three hits including a triple and drove in two runs for host University (3-1).
Garden Grove 5, Whittier Pioneer 4--Jim Sebreros hit a home run and double and starting pitcher Ron Moreno went the distance for Garden Grove (3-0). Pioneer (2-1) had 10 hits off Moreno.
In the Cypress softball tournament:
Kennedy 9, Westminster 2--Lisa Pitt had a two-run home run and Lana Jimenez had two hits and scored two runs for Kennedy (2-0).
In Sea View League boys’ swimming:
Corona del Mar 122, Santa Margarita 46--Crosby Grant won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle for Corona del Mar.
Irvine 119, Tustin 52--Steve Ronson and Jason Lezak were both double winners for host Irvine (2-0, 1-0). Ronson posted victories in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke and Lezak won the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle.
In Sea View League girls’ swimming:
Corona del Mar 91, Santa Margarita 79--Melanie Pells qualified for the Southern Section meet in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 26.08 for Corona del Mar (1-1, 1-0).
Irvine 135, Tustin 41--Alice Huszcz was a double winner for host Irvine (1-1, 1-0) with victories in the backstroke and the 200 individual medley.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Esperanza 101, Canyon 69--Sophomore Amy Holmdohl won two events, the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke for Esperanza (2-0).
In nonleague golf:
Corona del Mar 197, Foothill 224--Alicia Allison shot a two-over par 37 for Foothill (0-5) at Newport Beach Country Club. Freshman Billy Saracino, playing in his first varsity match, shot a 38 for Corona del Mar (5-0).
Katella 208, Diamond Bar 213--Ruben Toledo and Chris Mallonee shot 39 and 40 to lead Katella (4-0) at Anaheim Hills.
Los Amigos 215, Loara 218--Mark Guidi and Matt Stafford shot 40 and 41 to spark host Los Amigos (3-0) at Mile Square.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Orange 13, Buena Park 5--Josh O’Neill, Jessie Wang and Jason Wang all won three singles sets for Orange (2-1).
Huntington Beach 12, Estancia 6--Huntington Beach (2-2) swept all nine doubles sets in the victory at home.
