COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : DesRoches Gets Record Sixth Save as Cypress Defeats Orange Coast

Mike DesRoches pitched a perfect ninth inning for his record-setting sixth save as Cypress beat Orange Coast, 5-2, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday at Cypress.

DesRoches, from Loara High School, surpassed Bill Bentley, who had five saves in 1988. DesRoches has not allowed an earned run in 19 innings this season.

DesRoches saved the game for Aaron France (3-1), who gave up two runs and six hits in seven-plus innings. Kevin Clark had two hits and drove in two runs for Cypress (17-11, 7-7), which scored single runs in the third and fourth and two in the fifth to open a 4-0 lead.

Greg Folsom had two hits for Orange Coast (14-10, 7-5), which had beaten Cypress, 6-2, Tuesday.

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Saddleback 7, Golden West 3--Bo Haley hit a three-run home run in the fifth to give Saddleback a 5-3 lead. Wade Jackson had two hits and two RBIs for the Gauchos (16-8, 7-7). Tom Waterman pitched five innings to earn the victory and registered his 100th strikeout in his collegiate career. Joe Fraser homered for Golden West (9-13, 3-8).

Rancho Santiago 5, Fullerton 3--Matt Kastelic had a two-run single in the sixth to give host Rancho Santiago a 4-1 lead. Kastelic had two hits, walked and was hit by a pitch for the first-place Dons (19-5, 9-4), which lost to Fullerton, 4-1, Tuesday.

Brent Coon had three hits and drove in a run for Fullerton (11-13, 4-8).

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Cypress 4, Golden West 0--Carrie Reynolds (4-0) pitched a five-hitter for host Cypress (27-10, 10-2). Trisha Bokano had two hits and scored a run for Cypress.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Orange Coast 7, Cypress 2--Ali Esna won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, to lead Orange Coast.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Riverside 6, Fullerton 3--Renee Ivy won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3, for Fullerton (10-4, 8-3). Riverside is 9-3 in conference.
