Mater Dei girls’ basketball Coach Brenda Yecke announced her resignation to players Friday.

Yecke coached Mater Dei for six years and compiled a 92-58 record. She said she wants to pursue other career opportunities and begin work on her master’s degree.

She had previously coached three years at Fullerton High and three years at Troy. Her teams qualified for the playoffs 11 of those 12 years.

The Monarchs return four starters to next year’s varsity team.

Tahj Jakins of Marina High School has signed a letter of intent to play soccer at UCLA, Marina Coach David McLeish said Friday.

Jakins, who plays defense, had seven goals and two assists last year. He was named first-team All-Orange County.
