BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Surgery to Sideline Scioscia for Season
San Diego catcher Mike Scioscia will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair a tear in his right rotator cuff, and the former Dodger will sit out the rest of the season. Scioscia, 34, hurt his shoulder during spring training and started the season on the disabled list. He signed a $300,000 contract as a free agent on Feb. 11.

Cleveland catcher Sandy Alomar, who has been on the disabled list since May 1, will probably have surgery to repair the bulging disk in his back. . . . The Texas Rangers put pitcher Nolan Ryan on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle in his left hip, only five days after Ryan returned to the rotation.
