Pepperdine Releases 1993-94 Basketball Schedule

The Pepperdine men’s basketball team will play six teams that competed in postseason play last season as part of its 26-game schedule for the 1993-94 season.

The nonconference schedule includes a Dec. 18 game in Washington against George Washington, which reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament and returns 7-foot-1 center Yinka Dare. Pepperdine defeated the Colonials, 81-79, in Malibu last season.

Pepperdine will also play in two tournaments in Texas, the Dr Pepper Invitational Dec. 10-11 in Waco and the Sun Carnival Classic Dec. 29-30 in El Paso.

The Dr Pepper field includes Weber State, Stephen F. Austin and host Baylor. The Sun Carnival tournament includes Iowa State, which made the NCAA playoffs last season, Virginia Commonwealth and host Texas El Paso. Virginia Commonwealth and Texas El Paso played in the National Invitation Tournament.

The Waves open their regular season Nov. 27 in Malibu against San Francisco State, an NCAA Division II team, and open West Coast Conference play Jan. 14 at home against Santa Clara, which defeated Pepperdine in the WCC postseason tournament and advanced to the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

The Waves will also play a Dec. 22 game at UC Santa Barbara, which competed in the NIT.

The conference postseason tournament is March 5-7 at Santa Clara. Pepperdine was 23-8, won its conference regular season title and reached the second round of the NIT last season.
