Rod Hormell, a former Marina High, Golden West and UCLA water polo player, has been hired to coach the Chapman team, the university announced Monday.

Hormell, a 1974 graduate of Marina, was an All-American water polo player and swimmer for the Bruins and was a member of the 1980 Olympic water polo team.

Hormell replaces Jon Pendleton, who resigned at the end of the school year.

Greg Marshall, men’s basketball coach at Concordia University (formerly Christ College Irvine), has announced the signing of Craig Martin, a 6-foot-3 guard from Santa Monica College, to a letter of intent.

Martin, a graduate of Santa Monica St. Monica’s High, averaged 18 points for Santa Monica.

Brian Barajas of Mater Dei has been added to the South roster for the Orange County All-Star football game, which is scheduled July 9 at Orange Coast College. Barajas, a wide receiver/defensive back, replaces Corona del Mar’s Tom Hess.

Marc Kallick, a former Marina and UC Irvine track standout, will compete in the World Maccabiah Games starting July 5 in Israel.

Kallick will be competing in the 110 high hurdles, long jump, high jump and 400 meter relay.

La Habra’s Dani Ortega got the final two outs with the bases loaded to preserve the Orange County Athletics’ 1-0 victory over the Milan Ripco Stars from Rock Island, Ill., in the finals of an 18-and-under softball qualifying tournament in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., on Sunday.
