Millis Has CSUN Job for Now

Quarterback Coley Kyman underwent a three-hour surgical procedure Tuesday in which a plate and seven screws were inserted in his right fibula, and in his absence a quarterback controversy is brewing at Cal State Northridge.

Clayton Millis, the sophomore transfer from Oregon who inherited the job because of Kyman’s season-ending injury, believes the job should be his, despite the arrival of J.J. O’Laughlin, a transfer from Illinois.

“I don’t want to be looking over my shoulder,” Millis said. “It’s not fair to turn it into a quarterback competition. I know he’ll try to compete, but I feel there’s got to be some loyalty to me.”

Coach Bob Burt said there will be competition, but not until O’Laughlin learns the offense.

In another development, linebacker Billy Dykes rejoined the team. Dykes missed the Matadors’ 34-17 loss to San Diego State because of a family emergency.
