Paul Coffman has been named boys’ basketball coach at Newbury Park High, he confirmed Thursday.

Coffman, 54, a Newbury Park history teacher, fills the position vacated by Greg Ropes on Sept. 15. Ropes, who last season coached the Panther basketball and golf teams, resigned as basketball coach after school officials told him he had to focus on one sport.

“I’m very excited and I’m looking forward to the new season,” Coffman said. “I’m going to do the things I know best.”
