PREP ROUNDUP : Lezak’s Goal Finishes Late Rally as Irvine Beats Tustin in Water Polo

Jason Lezak scored with 1 minute 8 seconds remaining to give Irvine a 5-4 victory over Tustin in a Sea View League water polo game Wednesday at Tustin High.
Tustin (7-7, 1-1 in league) led 4-2 before Irvine rallied in the final three minutes.
Irvine’s Jeff Higley scored with 2:30 remaining to cut the lead to 4-3, then Scott Trausch scored with 1:40 remaining to tie the score, 4-4. Lezak had two goals for the Vaqueros (9-4, 1-1).
Marshall Bauernfiend and Jim Lowe each scored twice for Tustin.
In other Sea View League games:
Corona del Mar 21, Santa Margarita 8--James Palda scored the first three goals of the game for host Corona del Mar, the top-ranked team in Orange County. Crosby Grant and Neil Hueston each scored four goals for the Sea Kings (8-1, 1-0), who led, 12-0, at halftime. Brent Reynard scored three goals for Santa Margarita (2-3, 0-1).
Newport Harbor 16, University 5--Brad Pence scored five goals to lead visiting Newport Harbor (6-2, 2-0), the fifth-ranked team in the county. Gabe Wyatt added four goals for the Sailors.
Woodbridge 17, Saddleback 13--Chris Talbot scored 10 goals and Dawson Hughes added four for visiting Woodbridge (9-5, 2-0). Brett Trezise scored six goals for Saddleback (2-5, 0-2).
In the Sunset League:
Edison 9, Huntington Beach 5--Cory Tague scored three first-half goals to help Edison (8-5, 1-1) take a 7-1 halftime lead. Goalie Sasha Strauss had 12 saves for host Huntington Beach (0-2 in league).
Fountain Valley 12, Westminster 1--Fountain Valley goalie Dan Vairo had 12 saves, allowing only a fourth quarter goal and Kelly Gilbreth scored four goals for the Barons.
Servite 16, Santa Ana 6--Mike Lopez scored six goals and twin brothers David and Brian Cramp each had three for Servite (8-4, 2-0). Jerry Alonso scored four goals for Santa Ana.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Capistrano Valley 14, Foothill 4--Ashley Taylor, Brogan Lefebvre, and Mary Day swept nine singles sets, losing only eight games, for visiting Capistrano Valley (3-4).
Corona del Mar 14, Los Alamitos 4--Alicia Boice and Christie O’Meara improved to 15-0 with a 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 sweep in doubles for Corona del Mar (5-0, 4-0).
Dana Hills 11, Santa Barbara San Marcos 7--Dana Hills (6-1), ranked second in the Southern Section Division I, needed key victories from Michelle Johnson in singles and Anika Cox and Katie Tierney in doubles to defeat fifth-ranked San Marcos (7-2).
Newport Harbor 10, Beverly Hills 8--Newport Harbor’s No. 3 doubles team of Katie Hawkins and Heather Porter defeated Beverly Hills’ No. 1 doubles team, 6-4, in the deciding set of the match. Newport Harbor, ranked fourth in Division I, improved to 8-0. No. 9 Beverly Hills is 7-1.
Marina 10, Long Beach Wilson 5--Holly Meyers and Audrey Evangelista swept in singles for visiting Marina (5-3).
Rosary 15, Western 3--Colleen Coady, Cheryl Hamilton and Eleanor Luzano swept nine singles sets, losing only five games, to lead host Rosary (6-4).
Sunny Hills 9, Estancia 9 (Sunny Hills wins on games, 80-74)--Dana Rudolph and Barbie Bayless lost only six games, sweeping their six singles sets to lead host Sunny Hills.
