Fire Destroys Stores in Manhattan Beach
Flames fanned by an evening sea breeze ravaged a commercial building in downtown Manhattan Beach on Sunday, destroying at least three stores.
“The roof collapsed and we had a hard time getting to the fire,” said a spokesman for the Manhattan Beach Fire Department, which was assisted by firefighters from Torrance and Redondo Beach.
The fire apparently began in the attic of a building housing Manhattan Toy and Variety, and spread to stores on either side, officials said.
Investigators had no immediate information on the cause of the blaze or the cost of damage.
