THOUSAND OAKS : League to Reduce Use of Sequoia Fields

Share

Thousand Oaks school officials have agreed to let half of the Newbury Park Pony Baseball League keep using fields at Sequoia Intermediate School, while sending half to play at Newbury Park High School.

Some homeowners on Lupe Avenue and Michael Drive have complained about traffic related to the league’s use of four baseball fields at Sequoia. The Conejo Valley Unified School District also agreed Thursday to remove one ballpark from the school.

The remaining two groups at Sequoia will play only four nights a week, instead of six, officials said.

Since parking on neighboring residential streets has been a problem, the district plans to enforce rules in the league’s permit that say cars must be parked in the school parking lot, officials said.

“Previously, it’s been asked of the league to please park up there,” Assistant Supt. Sarah Hart said. “Now, it’s a ‘thou shalt.’ It’s a commandment.”

Pony League officials first objected to the change, saying the diamonds at the high school are not in usable condition. But they said they would work with the district and the Conejo Recreation and Park District to upgrade them.
