ROUNDUP : Brigham Young Takes Its Turn Sweeping CSUN

For the third match in a row and the fourth in six matches, the Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team was overpowered by a top-10 opponent.

Fourth-ranked Brigham Young defeated the Matadors, 15-0, 15-11, 15-4, Friday in the first round of the Cal Berkeley tournament.

Northridge (9-14) was swept by top-ranked UCLA and eighth-ranked USC in last week’s UCLA tournament, and fifth-ranked UC Santa Barbara dropped the Matadors in three games the previous week.

BYU (20-1) needed only 57 minutes to dispose of Northridge. The Cougars held the Matadors to a paltry .047 hitting percentage, including a negative-.389 mark in the first-game shutout.

Aimee Stone and Ana Kristich led the Matadors with five kills each, but their hitting percentages were negative .083 and .000.

Northridge has lost five of its last six matches.

MEN’S SOCCER

Moorpark 2, Hancock 1--Matt Van Stone scored two second-half goals within four minutes as the Raiders won a Western State Conference match at Hancock.

Van Stone’s first goal came at the 73-minute mark off an assist from Todd MaLesich. Sean Takata was credited with the assist on Van Stone’s second goal. Moorpark is 6-1-5, 4-0-2 in conference matches.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Bravo Medical d. Valley Alternative, 15-3, 15-9, 15-1--Lilibeth Cardano had seven kills, but Valley Alternative was swept in the Magnet League match at Bravo Medical.
