Deputies Detain Boys Who Admit Starting Small Fire
Sheriff’s deputies detained two 10-year-old boys who started a small brush fire in Saugus while playing with matches Saturday, authorities said.
Firefighters and deputies responding to flames at the west end of Cavallo Drive found the two youths about 3:45 p.m. where the flames started, said Deputy Robert Norlemann of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Norlemann said the boys, who admitted they started the fire while playing with matches, were released to their parents pending an investigation.
“I don’t think this was intentional,” Norlemann said of the fire. “I think what we got was a couple of kids doing the typical kid thing--playing with matches.”
