OUTLOOK
Despite the fact that Cypress had a poor summer league showing, nearly every other league coach picks the Centurions to win the Empire League championship. With two-time league MVP Eggleston returning for her senior year, along with two-time all-league selections Flaming and Adams, the Centurions definitely look to improve on last year’s 7-3 league mark. “I think everyone is looking at the fact that we return three starters,” Selbe said. “We were very young last year and we still were close all the way to the end. We have a good chance, but I’m concerned with our new players.” Aside from Cheung, the Centurions lack depth on this year’s roster. The team’s strengths definitely lie in the returning starters. Eggleston averaged 24.9 points and 15.9 rebounds, both second-best marks in the county, and Adams averaged 11.8 rebounds, fifth in the county. The trio’s strength and experience should allow the Centurions to advance to the Southern Section quarterfinals for the fifth straight year, assuming Selbe gets help from the bench. “I’m looking for the other players, after those three, to step up and contribute,” he said.
