OUTLOOK

At 6-foot-7, Kristich is the first player people will notice. Kristich averaged 11 points and five rebounds as a junior center, earning all-league honors. “But we don’t have a superstar on this team,” McCarroll said. “We have eight guys who could start.” McCarroll added that this is one of his deepest squads he’s had at La Habra, and hopes this is the year the Highlanders will step up to contend for the league title. Cauley is the starting off-guard who averaged nine points last season. He was La Habra’s most consistent player over the summer, McCarroll said, and he is also the team’s top defender. Cauley and Marshall, who averaged 18 points for the Junior varsity team last season, should provide some outside shooting, which, in turn, should open up the middle for Kristich. Gieldon, Ploog and Cole give the Highlanders added scoring depth on the front line, which should keep teams from concentrating too much on Kristich. McCarroll will count on Watanabe and Yoo to distribute the ball from the point. “I feel good about our chances,” McCarroll said.
