Dark horse: Rancho Alamitos (6-3-1) won five of its last six games after starting 1-2-1. Since Moukda Choulamany was inserted into the starting tailback spot after the fifth game, the Vaqueros have been a different team. Van Nuys Montclair Prep (9-0) could be scary. “That’s where (former Mater Dei running back) Derek Sparks came from,” Los Amigos Coach Steve Bolton said. “If they’ve got other players like Derek Sparks, we’re in trouble.”

Best draw: Lompoc. Despite losing three games, the Braves were seeded No. 3. Four teams who were unseeded lost fewer games than Lompoc.

Worst draw: Troy won its division and destroyed defending Division VII champion Sunny Hills, 28-0, in its final game. Its reward is a rematch with Rancho Alamitos, which defeated Troy, 27-17, in the season opener.

Notes: Lompoc would love a rematch with Rancho Alamitos, which beat the Braves, 21-7, in last year’s Division VII semifinals at Lompoc . . . After splitting its first six games, Lompoc won all four of its Northern League games. One of Lompoc’s losses was 14-7 to Santa Ynez, ranked first in Division IX. Another was a 42-6 thrashing by Hart, the third-ranked team in Division II. Wynn, a 5-9 junior, is finally healthy after playing most of the season with an ankle injury. In limited play, Wynn ran for 528 yards and five touchdowns in 79 carries. The Braves’ big-play guy is Jarrette, who returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown and caught scoring passes of 88 and 61 yards in last week’s 48-19 victory over Righetti . . . Arroyo Grande lost to Lompoc, 29-20, in the Northern League opener, but its playing its best football of the season now. Davis ran for 139 yards in 14 carries in Arroyo Grande’s victory over Santa Maria. Joe Weller leads Arroyo Grande in rushing with 793 yards and nine touchdowns. . . . San Luis Obispo’s Campbell caught all eight of Barnes’ touchdown passes. . . . Sierra Vista has never gone undefeated and has never seen the second round of the playoffs in the school’s 32-year history. The Dons’ strength is their defense. They have set season bests in interceptions (20), sacks (30), fewest yards allowed (1,586) and points allowed (90). Rios leads the Dons in interceptions (7) and he has a quarterback rating of 163.4 (59 of 93 for 744 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception) . . . Los Amigos Coach Steve Bolton has everyone available for the first time since the season’s third week. Sianez, who missed a month with a broken leg, is healthy and linebacker Keuni Faamausili and defensive tackle Matt Auau are back from suspensions. Leofa, who barely carried the ball in the first half, has become the Lobos’ primary runner in the second half. He ran for 210 yards and two touchdowns in 21 carries in Los Amigos’ 44-20 season-ending victory over Pacifica.
