OUTLOOK

With only one starter returning from a middle-of-the-pack team, Del Crognale said inexperience could hurt. The Lancers already lost 5-foot-11 junior center Tegan Catlin for the year to a shoulder injury that will require surgery. Catlin played sparingly last season, but would have started this year. With no starters taller than 5-7, the second-year coach could be in for some long evenings against tall teams, and joked that he may have to run a five-guard offense. “We’re very very short,” he said. “We’ll be running a lot of motion out there, and will rely on (Kameoka) quite a bit.” Kameoka was a second-team all-league pick last year, when she averaged eight points, and was Sunny Hills’ second-leading scorer. She enters her third season as the Lancers’ point guard. Takasaki is the most athletic player on the team, and Del Crognale says “she can jump out of the building.” This will be her first year devoted to basketball full-time; last year, she competed on the soccer team as well during basketball season. Del Crognale looks for scoring production out of Mumme, who is expected to start at shooting guard. “She’s a good shooter. We’re hoping Erin will come in and do a good job for us.” Del Crognale said the dearth of height will keep the Lancers out of title contention. “I can’t see how we can match up with Troy and their height,” he said.
