OUTLOOK

Those worried about Hattrup filling the shoes of Mark Trakh have little to worry about. He brings with him a history of winning, including two Southern Section championships and seven league titles in 10 years at Mission Viejo High. Returning nine lettermen from a State championship team and adding two from an undefeated junior varsity team should make Hattrup’s first year bearable, to say the least. The Ladycats come off their third consecutive State title, returning all five starters, including Erickson, who was selected first team All-State last season, averaging 22.3 points and 7.5 assists, and shot 47% from the floor. Along with Erickson, Hattrup inherits the front court trio of Hudson, Beckley and Moulin, all first team all-section selections. Erickson is joined by Miller, and returners Rhodabarger and Llanes in the backcourt. The addition of Metz and Zachry should only make the Ladycats stronger down low. Brea appears to be the runaway favorite for the league championship again, followed by Magnolia, Western and Valencia. A sixth consecutive appearance in the State finals doesn’t appear to be out of reach either.
