Highlights

Nicole Erickson provided one of the most memorable moments of the season, hitting a 12-footer from the baseline with 3.5 seconds remaining to give Brea-Olinda a dramatic 42-41 victory over Fair Oaks Bella Vista, and the Ladycats’ third consecutive State title, in their fifth final appearance in a row. It turned out to be the final game for Brea Coach Mark Trakh, who later left to coach at Pepperdine. . . . Savanna defeated Santa Fe Springs Santa Fe in the first round of the Southern Section Division II-A playoffs before falling to Westlake Village Westlake in the second round. . . . Western won its first ever playoff game, defeating Fullerton in the qualifying round of the Division III-AA playoffs. The Pioneers were then knocked out of the postseason by eventual champion Inglewood Morningside. . . . Magnolia, the league’s fourth playoff team, earned an at-large berth in Division II-A and lost to Troy, 50-31, in the opening round. . . . Erickson was named the league’s MVP and was a first-team all-section and All-State selection. Teammates Colleen Hudson, Sarah Beckley and Lee Moulin were all first-team all-section selections. . . . Western’s Jennifer Christensen, Anaheim’s Debbie Tu’ua, and Magnolia’s Barbara Mathews and Whitney Torregano were all-league selections.
