OUTLOOK

As if the Artists didn’t have enough of a task replacing six of the top seven players from the team that advanced to the Southern Section Division IV-AA quarterfinals, before losing, 54-53, to Playa del Rey St. Bernard. They are now being forced to replace their point guard, junior Nate Pivaroff, who tore his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for the Artists’ football team. Pivaroff’s knee was operated on several weeks ago, and Fleming expects him to miss the season. But don’t count Laguna Beach out. Opposing coaches say the Artists always seem to be able to put together a formidable team for the league season. McDonald, a second-team all-league player, is one of the PCL’s best outside shooters, and Orsborn and Soobzokov also can be sharp from beyond the three-point line. If the Artists hit the boards effectively, they should be able to make some waves in league play and the playoffs. “We’ve got some potential,” Fleming said. “I think we could be a lot like we were last year if the kids come around mentally.”
