BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Capistrano Valley Beats Glendora

Brandon Puffer scored 28 points and Todd Thornton added 19 as Capistrano Valley, the eighth-ranked team in Orange County, handed Glendora its first loss of the season with a 77-70 victory at Capistrano Valley High Tuesday.
Thornton had four three-pointers for the Cougars (6-2), who held Glendora’s Cameron Murray to 16 points.
Murray, who has signed a letter of intent with USC, made only two of nine three-pointers for Glendora (10-1).
In other nonleague games:
San Clemente 39, Anaheim 36--Luke Mannix, who had 10 points, made a three-pointer at the buzzer to give San Clemente (7-2) the victory.
Phinney Gardner scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Tritons.
Buena Park 55, Orange Lutheran 48--Ryan Maddex led Buena Park (3-6) with 18 points and Courtney Smith scored 12.
Century 54, Foothill 48--Senior Thomas Harmon had 18 points and his sophomore brother Ike had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Century (8-2).
Cerritos Gahr 69, Sunny Hills 49--Ben Nicolas had 16 points and nine rebounds for visiting Sunny Hills (3-7), which fell behind, 19-7, in the first quarter and never recovered.
Cypress 61, Villa Park 47--Derek Mitchell scored 24 points and Chad Boberg added 20 points for Cypress (5-4).
Estancia 70, Mission Viejo 59--Clay Frenz had 27 points and five three-pointers and Zack Richardson had 11 points and eight assists for host Estancia (5-4).
Santa Ana Valley 63, Savanna 61--Olujimi Mann, who scored 22 points, made one free throw with seven seconds left for Santa Ana Valley (8-1).
Todd Wilson scored 19 points and Jermaine Moore scored 18 for Savanna (5-3).
In the Ayala tournament:
Rosemead 60, Liberty Christian 47--Dave Vaccaro had 22 points and 14 rebounds for Liberty Christian (1-7) in a consolation-round game.
In the Burbank Bellarmine Jefferson tournament:
Capistrano Valley Christian 87, L.A. Lutheran 29--Mike Mattson scored 27 points and Jermaine Hall scored 19 for Capistrano Valley (2-9).
