A 1920s-era Moroccan-style home featured in Sunday’s Los Angeles Times Magazine was damaged in a fire that destroyed two rooms and vintage furnishings.

Firefighters arrived at the Silver Lake house about 6:30 p.m. and doused the blaze in about 30 minutes, said Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. There were no injuries, and no one was in the house at the time. The cause is under investigation, Humphrey said.

The blaze was confined to two rooms on the second floor, he said.

The five-story house features a mosque-style dome and minarets. Inside, it has tiled walls and beamed ceilings. After the owner bought the home in 1989, he furnished it with vintage California pottery, Moroccan tables and old Persian and Turkish rugs, which were featured in a photo essay for the magazine’s Style section.

“Neighbors approached firefighters with copies of the Los Angeles Times,” Humphrey said. “The firefighters said, ‘Sure enough, this is the place.”’

The house sustained about $100,000 in damage, and $75,000 to its contents, Humphrey said.
