SOUTH COAST LEAGUE BOYS’ BASKETBALL : Junior Varsity Coaches Fight After Game

Share

A fight broke out between coaches after a junior varsity basketball game between Mater Dei and Dana Hills Friday night at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.

Junior varsity assistants Jason Quinn of Mater Dei and Dennis Dickens of Dana Hills had to be separated by campus police after Quinn appeared to punch Dickens. Dana Hills varsity players, who were warming up at the time, charged the bench and had to be restrained, as did several fans who attempted to come out of the stands.

The incident occurred after Mater Dei’s 75-47 victory. Witnesses said Dana Hills coaches complained to Mater Dei coaches that the Monarchs had run up the score, and an argument ensued. It grew more intense, and Quinn charged Dickens, throwing a punch before the two fell to the ground.

A Mater Dei official claimed Dickens made a derogatory remark before the fight.

There were no arrests, and officials from both schools met after the game to investigate the matter.
