HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : St. Francis Defeats Bishop Amat for Eighth Consecutive Victory

Braden Weber had 18 points and 14 rebounds and Chris Ott added 15 points to power host St. Francis High to a 58-52 victory over Bishop Amat on Friday night in a Del Rey League boys’ basketball game.

Trailing, 27-19, at halftime, St. Francis took a 39-38 lead at the end of the third quarter and never trailed again. The win was the eighth in a row for the Golden Knights (12-4, 3-0 in league) and their 11th victory in 12 games.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Glendale 58, Crescenta Valley 48--Ramon Jose scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half to lead the Dynamiters (13-4) in a Pacific League opener at Glendale. Jose, who made nine of 17 shots, was six for eight in the second half.

Richard O’Neill led Crescenta Valley (10-5) with 19 points and Blake Jacobsen added 12.

North Hollywood 76, Monroe 65--Shaka Stiner scored 28 points for Monroe, but it was not enough in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Damon Ollie had 26 points and 17 rebounds for North Hollywood (7-5, 2-0) and Fantasia Johnson added 16 points and 11 assists.

Dante Cain added 19 points for Monroe (3-9, 1-2).

Sylmar 73, Sherman Oaks CES 54--Michael Farmer had 23 points and nine assists and Joe Guerra 18 points, all on three-point shots, for the Spartans (8-2, 3-0 in the Valley Pac-8 Conference).

Simi Valley 60, Channel Islands 56--Vernon Simmons had 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Pioneers (11-4, 2-1) in a Marmonte League game.

San Marcos 55, Buena 49--The Royals (10-2, 2-0) overcame a 45-36 deficit in the fourth quarter with a 19-4 run to beat Buena in a Channel League game.

Franklin 66, Verdugo Hills 54--Chan Cornish had 23 points and 19 rebounds for the Dons in a Northern Conference game, but the Panthers outscored Verdugo Hills, 22-12, in the fourth quarter.

St. Bonaventure 78, Cate 46--Rod Tepesano had 30 points and eight rebounds, Jo Jo Molina scored 16 points, and Sean Carr added 11 rebounds for St. Bonaventure (7-5) in a nonleague game at Cate.

L.A. Baptist 73, Fillmore 37--Landon LaPack led the Knights with 14 points in a nonleague game.

San Fernando 51, Cleveland 49--Host San Fernando exploded for 26 points in the second quarter to take a 12-point lead in a Northwest Valley Conference opener. Javier Ramos led San Fernando (7-8) with 19 points and seven steals. Jermaine Hall (23 points) and Louis Fernandez (12) paced Cleveland (9-7).

Santa Paula 77, Calabasas 66--Manuel Escamilia scored 28 points to lead Santa Paula in a Frontier league opener at Calabasas. Nick Alexander had 24 points and 12 rebounds for Calabasas (7-7).

Kennedy 44, El Camino Real 34--Charles Adams scored 14 points but it wasn’t enough for El Camino Real in a Northwest Valley Conference game. Dante Jones led Kennedy with 13 points.

Royal 74, Camarillo 49--Four players scored in double figures to lead the Highlanders past Camarillo (5-7, 1-1) in a Marmonte League game at Royal.

Granada Hills 74, Taft 71--Todd Battles sank a three-point shot with less than a minute to play to give the host Highlanders the lead, then converted two free throws with 11 seconds remaining in a Northwest Valley Conference opener.

Steve Fisher (22 points, 11 rebounds), Ernest Quinley (17, 11), William Ruffin (12, 10) and Battles (11 points) all scored in double figures for Granada Hills (5-7), which posted its second league victory in two years. Ricky Steele (22 points), Lamont Magee (18) and Miles Blake (16) led Taft (9-6).

Littlerock 46, Quartz Hill 45 (2 OT)--Littlerock’s Mike Lonien hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game to the first overtime. Jon George led Littlerock with 21 points and also hit the final shot. Van Goodrich was the high scorer for Quartz Hill with 19.

Ventura 70, Rio Mesa 43--John-Ryan Kern (19 points) and Ryan Studt (15) led Ventura, which outscored Rio Mesa, 45-18, in the second half.

Serra 88, Bell-Jeff 43--Dan Mancinelli scored 12 points, but the host Guards were overwhelmed in a Camino Real League opener.

Campbell Hall 63, Whitney 54--Simeon Woodall had 22 points and Alex Lopez added 18 points and 10 rebounds for host Campbell Hall in a Delphic League opener.

Moorpark 62, Nordhoff 46--Micah Hanson had 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Musketeers in a Frontier league game in Ojai. Mark Sebek scored 22 points for the Rangers.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Nordhoff 60, Moorpark 37--The Rangers outscored Moorpark, 18-2, in the third quarter of the Frontier League game. Rachel McSorley had 24 points and 12 rebounds for Nordhoff (12-3).

Burroughs 69, Burbank 20--Jamie Vahoviak scored 16 points and Elizabeth Vajar added 12 to lead Burroughs (13-3, 3-1) in a Foothill League game.

El Camino Real 56, San Fernando 36--Jessica Dinaberg scored 16 points and Tami Jones added 12 points and five steals for host El Camino Real in the Northwest Valley Conference game.

Poly 64, Sherman Oaks CES 26--Dora Lopez had 26 points, 15 steals and 12 rebounds for host Poly (6-5, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 League game. Ese Akpoui led Sherman Oaks CES with 17 points.

North Hollywood 68, Monroe 50--Darvena Merritt had 27 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals to lead North Hollywood in a Valley Pac-8 game.

Chatsworth 68, Reseda 18--Mandy Sommers had 17 points in the Chancellors’ Northwest Valley Conference rout at Chatsworth.

Kennedy 65, Cleveland 27--Tami Ross scored 13 points and had 14 rebounds, and Coyles Scarbrough had 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead Kennedy in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Chaminade 4, Bishop Montgomery 2--Ryan Saunders scored two goals in the first half and Mike Costanza and Aaron Robins each added one in the second as Chaminade (2-1-1 in league play) prevailed in the Mission League match.

Alemany 3, St. Bernard 0--Alemany’s Kendall Simmonds scored two goals in a Mission League match.

Calabasas 5, Santa Paula 1--Bhret Haessig scored two goals for Calabasas and Santa Paula goalie Gabriel Villa had 15 saves in a Frontier League match.

Notre Dame 3, Crespi 2--Chris Sailer’s goal with a minute remaining lifted Notre Dame in a Mission League match. Billy Busch and Chris Shaffer scored for Crespi (1-6, 1-3).

Moorpark 5, Nordhoff 0--Pat Russo scored three goals, and Jared Kira and Curtis Silverest each added a goal for Moorpark (16-2) in a Frontier League opener at Nordhoff.
