Bottled up all day by Saddleback sweeper Oscar Cisneros, Corona del Mar forward Jason Boyce appeared to get his revenge when he broke free and scored the go-ahead goal with three minutes left in the game.

But seconds later the frustration continued for Boyce when the referee waved off his goal and whistled him for an apparent obstruction call. Neither team got off a shot in the final minutes and the physical Sea View League game ended in a 1-1 tie Wednesday at Corona del Mar.

Afterward, Boyce was still trying to figure out exactly what happened.

“I thought I got by (Cisneros) easily,” Boyce said. “I didn’t even touch him. Once I got by him, I pushed it past the goalkeeper (Eddie Lopez). All of sudden I saw the referee waving it off. I was in such shock; I was in a loss for words. And I figured if I argued, he’d call something.”

Cisneros saw the play differently.

“He held me,” Cisneros said. “He took me out of the way. I thought the ref wasn’t going to call it.”

Boyce’s shot was one of the few times Cisneros didn’t get a foot on a ball in Saddleback’s zone. Thanks mainly to Cisneros, the seventh-ranked Sea Kings (10-2-3, 3-0-1 in league) were able to muster only six shots on goal.

“He marks well and he seems to be everywhere,” Boyce said. “He plays deep and that’s what makes it tough.”

Sixth-ranked Saddleback (9-2-3, 2-0-2) scored six minutes into the game on a breakaway by Carlos Vizcaino. Corona del Mar tied it eight minutes into the second half when Dustin Lee kicked in a rebound of a penalty kick by Jed Weinstein.

In another Sea View League game:

Newport Harbor 2, Santa Margarita 1--Chris Ketchum scored both goals for Newport Harbor, including the game-winner 15 minutes into the second half on an assist from Jeremy Ellis, as the Sailors (3-6-4, 1-2-1) upset No. 2 Santa Margarita (8-2-2, 2-2).

In the Century League:

El Modena 1, Santa Ana Valley 0--Nick Purdom took a pass from Eddie Romo and scored with 15 minutes remaining to give El Modena (5-4-1, 1-1) victory over top-ranked Santa Ana Valley (10-1-3, 1-1).
