Volleyball Club Wins Tournament

The Mission Valley Blue 18-and-under girls’ club volleyball team won the Fiesta Classic tournament by beating Arizona Juniors, 15-12, 15-2, in the championship match Sunday at Arizona State.

The team, which includes Analisa Saylor and Nina Foster of Mission Viejo, Jeanne Vetter of Dana Hills, Amy Steele of Laguna Hills, Hilary Kyle of Laguna Beach and Jennifer Kessy of Dana Hills, was undefeated in the tournament.

The Balboa Bay-Reebok boys’ 18-and-under volleyball club team won three matches in pool play of the Berkeley Invitational Sunday at California.

The team, which includes Mitch McCoy, Eric Vallely and Paul Root of Newport Harbor High, Jeremy Darner of Dana Hills, Mike Grave of Huntington Beach, Tim Willey of Whittier Christian, Mike Allison of Esperanza and Brooks Hoppe of Corona del Mar, beat Clovis, 15-9, 15-7; Seaside of San Diego, 15-2, 11-15, 15-10, and Santa Cruz, 8-15, 15-9, 15-12, and advanced into today’s championship bracket as the top-seeded team.

The Balboa Bay White team also advanced to the championship bracket, beating White Rock of Vancouver, Canada, 15-12, 11-15, 15-10, City Beach of Berkeley, 15-10, 16-14, and losing to Highline of Simi Valley, 9-15, 15-10, 15-9.
