COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Advances in Baseball Tournament

Sophomore Aaron France (4-0) gave up one earned run and struck out seven in eight innings to give Cypress a 5-2 victory over Kings River in the Cypress baseball tournament Friday at Cypress.

Freshman shortstop Augie Ojeda had a two-run single in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie, and lead Cypress. The Chargers advanced to the semifinals, where they will face the winner of El Camino-College of the Desert today at 10 a.m.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s track and field:

Golden West 77, Saddleback 66--Darin Mitchell won the 100 meters in 11 seconds and finished second in the 200 (22.2) for host Golden West (1-0).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s track and field:

Saddleback 89, Golden West 37--Courtney Leonard captured first place in the 200 and 400 meters, Kerri Leary was first in the 100 and 400 hurdles and Dayna MacKenzie took first place in the shot put and discuss to lead Saddleback (3-1).
