COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Moorpark’s Foster at Best in 1st Round
Paul Foster scored a season-high 33 points and claimed 10 rebounds to help Moorpark College defeat Orange Coast, 93-90, in a first-round Southern Regional junior college playoff game Saturday night at Moorpark.
Orange Coast (13--17) scored the first seven points of the game and held a 61-55 lead in the second half. But Moorpark (24-8) rallied with the help of guard Sean Martin, who had 20 points and 12 assists.
Moorpark on Wednesday plays host to Southwestern, a 93-86 winner over Glendale.
Antelope Valley 104, Pasadena 82--Guard Danny Prince scored 27 points for Antelope Valley in a first-round Southern Regional playoff game. Prince hit seven of 15 three-point attempts as the host Marauders led, 55-42, at the half and never looked back. Orville Turner contributed 20 points for Antelope Valley (20-11).
WOMEN
Cypress 70, Ventura 64--Cypress ended Ventura’s hopes for another final-eight appearance with a victory in a second-round game of the Southern California regional at Ventura.
Jennifer Johnson scored a game-high 24 points and Sara Works added 22 points for the Chargers (24-9), seeded No. 5 in the regional. Julie Hardy scored 19 points for Ventura (26-6) before fouling out with 4 minutes 23 seconds left to play.
The Pirates, seeded fourth, advanced to the state championships last season but lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Lassen.
