OUTLOOK

The Cougars, led by one of the league’s best pitching staffs, should battle Dana Hills for the title. Left-hander Zamora, named the 35th best high school prospect by Baseball America, is arguably one of the best left-handers in the nation. He had 100 strikeouts last season with a 1.45 earned-run average. The 6-3 senior batted .296 and has signed with UCLA. Newcomer Puffer will also be on the mound and Coach Zamora expects good things from him. Capistrano Valley is an experienced team, with 15 seniors and one junior. Last season, the Cougars finished tied for third and missed a spot in the playoffs, but Zamora expects better results this year: “So far I don’t see any weaknesses. We’ve been together a long time and we play well together.”
