Third baseman Shannon Jones tied two Cal State Northridge softball records Sunday by hitting two home runs and driving in six runs in the second game of the Matadors’ doubleheader sweep of Arizona State.

CSUN won the first game, 2-1 in eight innings, and the second, 10-0.

Jones, who also homered in the first game and has eight for the season, hit the fourth grand slam in Matador history in the sixth inning of the second game. It was the sixth two-homer game by a Matador player. Her six runs batted in tied the mark set by Leslie Barrett in March 1982 and tied 10 years later by current Matador outfielder Beth Calcante.

Calcante won the first game by hitting her fifth homer of the season to lead off eighth inning.

The sixth-ranked Matadors (33-6) led, 1-0, in the first game on the strength of Jones’ homer before Arizona State (16-29) scored an unearned run in the seventh.

Amy Windmiller (18-1) allowed seven hits and struck out seven to earn the victory in the first game. Kathy Blake (10-5) was the winner in the second game.

Jones and Calcante finished the day with five hits apiece. Catcher Scia Maumausolo had three hits in the second game.
