HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Burnette’s Hit in 7th Lifts El Camino Real

Billy Burnette’s two-run triple in the seventh inning lifted El Camino Real to a 6-5 victory over Kennedy in a Northwest Valley Conference game Thursday at El Camino Real.

Burnette also had a run-scoring single in the first inning. Justin Martin was three for three, including a two-run home run for El Camino Real (12-4, 5-3 in league play).

Freshman right-hander Shaun Fishman (1-2) struck out six in 3 2/3 innings to earn the victory in relief of Tony Kyber.

Kevin Serr was two for four and drove in two runs for Kennedy (7-9-1, 2-6).

Taft 2, San Fernando 1--Justin Collins pitched a three-hitter, struck out three and walked two for the Toreadors in a Northwest Valley Conference game at San Fernando.

Chad Mariner singled home Mike Andrisano for what turned out to be the winning run in the fourth for Taft (12-8, 7-1).

Javier Barragan (2-2) was the losing pitcher despite pitching a four-hitter for San Fernando (3-13, 2-6).

Cleveland 3, Reseda 1--Tony Williams pitched a four-hitter, leading the Cavaliers (3-11, 2-6) to Northwest Valley Conference victory at Reseda.

Kelvin Delgado, Junior Brignac, Casey Roth and Eric Elzy had two hits apiece for Cleveland. Brian Menkin and Alonso Arreola each had doubles for Reseda (6-7, 2-6).

Cleveland snapped a 1-1 tie with runs in the sixth and seventh.

L.A. Baptist 8, Western Christian 5--Matt Hernandez went three for three with a double and three RBIs as the Knights improved to 4-1 in Alpha League play.

Hernandez also picked up his sixth win by going five innings and striking out six. Dana Berg added three hits for the Knights.

Canyon 11, Burroughs 4--R.J. Huish doubled twice and drove in two runs, and Chad Phillips hit a two-run homer for the Cowboys in a Foothill League victory.

Sophomore Mike Bland was two for four and had two RBIs.

Grace Brethren 14, Masada 1--Senior right-hander Jarrod Foote pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven, to lead Grace Brethren (7-4) in a nonleague game.

SOFTBALL

Burroughs 1, Burbank 0--Gabi Morris (4-7) pitched a four-hitter, struck out eight and walked one in the Foothill League game at McCambridge Park.

Dani Morris--Gabi’s sister--doubled home the only run with two out in the fourth for Burroughs (6-9, 1-3).

Simi Valley 4, Newbury Park 0--The Pioneers (13-1, 7-1) made the most of two hits in a Marmonte League game at Rancho Santa Susana Park. Sara Griffin (11-1) pitched her ninth shutout, striking out nine and walking none.

El Camino Real 5, Taft 4--Tammy Jones singled over the right fielder’s head with the bases loaded in the eighth, driving in the winning run for the Conquistadores (15-2, 9-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game. El Camino Real has won 10 games in a row.

Jennifer Gould pitched a five-hitter, striking out seven. Gould also hit her second home run of the season, a two-run shot.

Chatsworth 7, Reseda 3--Jodi Borenstein, Parisa Plant and Jennifer Stern hit homers for Chatsworth (10-2, 7-2) in the Northwest Valley Conference game.

North Hollywood 19, Poly 6--Tessa Basham hit a three-run home run and Claudia Soto was three for three, leading the Huskies (5-11, 3-5) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly.

Bell-Jeff 11, Serra 0--Carrie Breedlove (8-2) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 for the Guards in a Camino Real League game at Palm Park. Breedlove had two hits as Bell-Jeff (10-2, 7-0) won its eighth game in a row.

Thousand Oaks 11, Channel Islands 1--Jennifer Lee (5-0) had a no-hitter until the seventh and settled for a two-hitter. She struck out 11 and walked none.

Montclair Prep 18, Faith Baptist 5--Stephanie Aron had four hits--including three doubles--two RBIs and scored three runs for Montclair Prep (10-3) in a nonleague game at Faith Baptist.

Westlake 2, Royal 1--Kelly DeArman pitched a two-hitter, striking out 13, and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning of a Marmonte League game for the Warriors (8-7, 3-5). DeArman had a triple and a single.

Crescenta Valley 1, Hoover 0--Wendy Miller’s double in the fifth inning drove in the only run in a Pacific League game. Kim Scott pitched three perfect innings in relief to pick up the victory for the Falcons (14-2, 3-1) at Hoover.

Oak Park 4, Fillmore 3--Oak Park managed only one hit but still won a Tri-Valley league game at Valley View Park.

BOYS’ TRACK

St. Bonaventure 82, Carpinteria 53--Jim Lyon won three events for St. Bonaventure (5-1, 2-0) in the Tri-Valley League meet.

Lyon, defending Southern Section Division IV champion in the triple jump, bounded 41-10 to win that event and added victories in the long jump (21-9 1/2) and 100 meters (11.7).

GIRLS’ TRACK

Buena 106, Santa Barbara 51, Oxnard 26--Stacy Hebert won two events at Santa Barbara as the Bulldogs clinched their first Channel League title since 1987.

Hebert timed 17.2 seconds in the 100 high hurdles and 47.4 in the 300 lows for Buena (7-0, 7-0 in league meets), which snapped Rio Mesa’s string of league titles at eight. Meaghan Dunne won the 800 in 2 minutes 22.7 seconds for Buena, which tied Rio Mesa for the league title in 1987.
