PREP ROUNDUP : Western’s Woods Shoots Under Par for Seventh Match in Row
Western’s Tiger Woods was under par for the seventh consecutive high school match, shooting two-under 30, in a nonleague tri-match Friday at Catalina Island Golf Course in Avalon.
Woods had two birdies and hit eight of nine greens in regulation as Western finished with 189 strokes. El Dorado won the match with 180; Avalon had 211.
David Dawson shot 34 for the Pioneers. Andy Noss and Dan Syhre each shot 35 for El Dorado.
In Empire League boys’ tennis:
Los Alamitos 12, Esperanza 9--Franco Trani and Marco Materazzi swept at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 6-1, 6-4, for Los Alamitos (11-3, 5-1).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Los Amigos 92, Katella 78--Matt Bailey won the 50 freestyle (22.92), 100 breaststroke (1:09.24) and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay for Los Amigos. Bryan Morris won the 100 freestyle (53.16), 200 freestyle (1:58.80) and swam on the 200 freestyle relay.
