HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Verstraeten Pitches Four-Hitter, Leads Ventura Past Righetti, 3-1

Robert Verstraeten threw a four-hitter, striking out eight and walking five for host Ventura High in a 3-1 victory over Righetti in a Southern Section Division II wild-card baseball game Tuesday.

Buba Morales was two for three for the Cougars (11-10-1), who will travel to Gahr on Friday for a first-round game.

Channel Islands 13, Chaminade 2--The host Raiders (17-10) advanced in a Division I wild-card game, and will face Crescenta Valley on Friday. Chaminade ended its season with a 17-10 record.

First Lutheran 8, Oakwood 4--Billy Dennis had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Falcons in a Division VI wild-card game.

TENNIS

Burbank 11 2/3, Western 0--Host Burbank dropped only five games in 10 sets in a Division III first-round playoff match at Burroughs High.

Five singles sets and five doubles sets were played before the match was called because of rain, after being moved from Burbank to Burroughs for the same reason.

Agoura 12, Dos Pueblos 9--Junior Roman Braslavsky swept his matches at No. 1 singles, leading the Chargers (16-3) in a first-round match of the Division I playoffs.

Agoura won despite losing six of nine doubles matches.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Harvard Westlake d. Arcadia, 15-9, 15-9, 15-8--Matt Sebree had 16 kills to lead host Harvard-Westlake (18-1) in a Division I second-round playoff victory.
