David Trentine, a catcher for Cypress College, was drafted in the late rounds by the New York Yankees, school officials announced.

Trentine, who played at Foothill High School, was the Chargers’ leading hitter this season with a .365 batting average.

Jaret Wright of Katella, the Cleveland Indians’ first-round draft pick on Thursday, and Treanor of Mater Dei are two seniors scheduled to play in the Kiwanis High School all-star game at 7 tonight at Glover Stadium.

Wright will lead the North squad, coached by Dane Ilertsen of Troy. Treanor will play for the South, coached by Dave Demarest of La Quinta. La Quinta defeated West Torrance to win the Southern Section Division III championship Saturday.

Three Saddleback football players and another from Orange Coast have announced plans to play for Chapman University next season.

Efriam Miranda, an All-Mission Conference defensive lineman from Orange Coast, Jeff Wilkes, a second-team all-conference offensive lineman, offensive lineman Mark Maddux and tight end Kent Chantung of Saddleback will join the Panthers, who will field a football team for the first time since 1932.

Miranda led OCC in tackles with 111 and tied for the team lead in sacks with eight. Saddleback defensive back Roger Hein will attend New Mexico State, joining former Saddleback players quarterback Tim Snowden and linebacker Beau LeBreton.

Saddleback offensive lineman Nurcan Ciftcikara will attend Western State in Gunnison, Colo., and tailback Reggie Carter will play at Weber State.
