Six months to the day after the Northridge earthquake rocked the county, an aftershock centered in the San Fernando Valley jolted some Fillmore residents but caused no injuries or damage.

The 3.4-magnitude aftershock of the Jan. 17 earthquake hit at 8:29 a.m. Sunday and was centered one mile southeast of Chatsworth, according to a Caltech seismologist.

In Fillmore, Mayor Linda Brewster said she was reading the morning newspaper when the temblor hit.

“It was a little eerie, because I was sitting reading about the January quake when I felt this jolt,” Brewster said.

A Simi Valley police dispatcher said the small shock was barely discernible there.

Ventura County police and sheriff’s deputies said there were no reports of injury or damage and no calls for service linked to the brief jolt.
