OUTLOOK

The Aztecs could be the league’s most improved team if their young offensive line can give their quarterbacks (Gondringer and Livernois) some time to find a quality group of receivers. Bautista and Nguyen (17 receptions) had great summers in the passing league and should make defensive backs nervous with their speed. Gondringer (1,142 yards, 5 TDs), a drop-back passer, and Livernois, a roll-out, play-action type, will alternate for the third consecutive season. Delgado, the only returning offensive lineman, could start alongside four sophomores. The defense is also young, but the strengths are at middle linebacker with Tiger, a second-team all-league performer, and in the secondary, which features Livernois at free safety.
