Magnolia’s Marin Gives Santiago Heavy Pounding

Carlos Marin, a 220-pound running back/linebacker, pounded through Santiago for two short-yardage touchdowns to lead Magnolia to a 21-0 victory Thursday night at Garden Grove High.

Marin scored a one-yard run in the first quarter and a two-yard run in the third quarter.

Tony Eliescu finished the scoring with his own two-yard run in the fourth quarter. He rushed for 46 yards in 11 carries. Marin finished with 20 yards in six carries.

Quarterback Robert Nicols completed seven of 10 passes for 82 yards for Magnolia.

The Sentinel defense held the Cavaliers to minus 20 yards rushing and 20 passing.

Cavalier quarterback Octavio Villa completed two of 14 passes with three interceptions--the last coming as the time expired. He was also sacked three times.

Sean Roy led Magnolia with 75 yards rushing in 16 carries.
