Washington State Rolls After Ineffective Start : Nonconference: Davis passes for two touchdowns in 24-3 victory over Fresno State after first three possessions end in turnovers.

Chad Davis passed for two touchdowns Saturday as Washington State overcame a poor start to defeat Fresno State, 24-3.

Scoring strikes to Jay Dumas and Albert Kennedy were the first passing touchdowns this season for Davis, a redshirt sophomore transfer from Oklahoma.

Washington State (2-0) held Fresno State (1-2) to 34 yards rushing. Bulldog quarterback Adrian Claiborne had two passes intercepted and was sacked five times. He completed 15 of 33 passes for 189 yards.

Davis completed 18 of 27 passes for 236 yards, with three interceptions.

After the Cougars’ first three drives were ended by two fumbles and an interception, Davis and Dumas combined on a 29-yard screen pass to put Washington State up for good, 7-3, with 25 seconds to play in the first quarter.

Frank Madu broke a tackle and dashed 21 yards to score, capping an 80-yard drive to start the third quarter and give Washington State a 14-3 lead.

Tony Truant kicked a 38-yard field goal to begin the fourth quarter, and Davis found Kennedy in the back of the end zone with a 25-yard touchdown pass to complete the scoring.

Fresno State scored first on a 30-yard field goal by Johan Lyssand midway through the first quarter, getting the opportunity when Washington State fumbled a snap at the Fresno 39. Lyssand later missed a 31-yarder and had another kick blocked.
