Outlook: Sumner has big aspirations for his relatively young squad. “I wouldn’t be surprised if this team is the second-best I’ve ever had here.” Sumner said only his State championship team of 1989 had more talent. Slingsby had a disappointing junior season as evidenced by 11th-place finishes at the Orange County Championships and the Sea View League finals. Beardslee was one of the county’s top freshmen last fall and has shown marked improvement heading into his second season. Known for cultivating young talent, Sumner has five sophomores and a talented freshman to shuffle around until he finds the perfect fit within his top seven spaces.
