Calvary Chapel 3, Corona del Mar 0--Lynn Lovingier had 12 kills and eight digs to lead host Calvary Chapel, ranked No. 4 in the county, over No. 2 Corona del Mar, 15-10, 15-5, 15-9. Kathryn Rice had 10 kills for Corona del Mar, which won the Southern Section and State Division I titles last season.
La Habra 3, Esperanza 0--Barbie Wiborg had 13 kills for visiting La Habra (1-0) which upset 10th-ranked Esperanza, 17-15, 20-18, 15-3.
Bolsa Grande 3, Saddleback 1--Jill Tantardini had 10 kills for Bolsa Grande (2-0) in the 12-15, 15-5, 15-10, 15-13 victory.
Rancho Alamitos 3, Magnolia 1--Shannon Carlson recorded seven kills for visiting Magnolia (0-1), 12-15, 11-15, 15-11, 11-15.
El Modena 3, El Dorado 1--Erin Endecavageh had 11 kills in the 15-2, 15-10, 8-15, 15-5, victory for El Modena (2-0). Celene Williams added 30 assists.
San Pedro Mary Star of the Sea 3, Orangewood Academy 0--Amy Dydek had six kills for Orangewood Academy, a high school in Garden Grove playing its first Southern Section match in school history. Orangewood lost 15-13, 15-11, 15-2.
Brea-Olinda 3, Troy 2--Shannon Breazeale and Ann Marie Hatchel each had 10 kills for Brea-Olinda, which won 15-6, 12-15, 8-15, 15-11, 15-6.
